minutes from the nearest hospital in Shrewsbury and on a busy road, the
Trustees felt with was a great location to donate one of our AED’s.

  • Wall Heath Evangelical Free Church in Wall Heath puts an AED on the Wall.

Wall Heath Evangelical Free Church in Wall Heath puts an AED on the Wall.

Kay is the Church Administrator for the Wall Heath Evangelical Free Church in Wall Heath, Kingswinford. Wall Heath is a hamlet in Kingswinford parish, Staffordshire, an area of high deprivation. The Church is a warm, welcoming, family orientated community church that was established in 1949. In addition to services, the church runs numerous church-based activities and host external groups. In total, the church works with around 2,000 people in the wider community each year, welcoming around 300 people each week into the building. Their ethos is for Wall Heath to be a whole community where everyone feels valued and therefore the Trustees felt it was the perfect place to donate an HAJMT AED. In addition, the church is very easy to find, which is key in an emergency situation.

  • Busy Rural Village Hall has application accepted for installation of AED

Busy Rural Village Hall has application accepted for installation of AED

    Fitz Village Hall

Tina Swain, Roger Briers, Julie Kaye and Lynne and Gerald Mills, pictured here with Sally– all officially representing Fitz Village Hall. Tina, along with Lynne and Gerald submitted an application for one of our AEDs after having heard about the Henry Angell-James Memorial Trust and the work that we do to serve communities like these.

Fitz Village Hall benefits a small, rural community which serves 3 hamlets with approximately 20-30 dwellings in each hamlet. Henry, whom the charity was formed in honour of after he passed away from fatal cardiac arrest, spent a lot of time in his youth at Fitz as it was close to where he lived and he had friends there as a teenager.

As is always the case, the village hall is vital to the community, with coffee mornings, yoga, crafts workshops, monthly flower groups and a friendship group for over 55’s. It is situated on a very busy road which is popular with cyclists. The AED is very visible and the Fitz Village Hall funded pedestrian access to the AED, so that anyone, at any time can access it.

“The community as a whole really appreciates the donation from the HAJMT.  It makes a big difference to a small rural community like ours.  Thank you the HAJMT” said Tina Swain, former committee member of the Fitz Village Hall.

  • Diddlebury Installs AED outside village hall

Diddlebury Installs AED outside village hall

Sara applied for an HAJMT AED working together with the Diddlebury Parish Council and the Diddlebury Village Hall committee. The defibrillator is now in place on the outside of Diddlebury Village Hall.

After a successful application for one of our AEDs at Bouldon, it recommended Diddlebury apply as they are also located far from the emergency services and are in a very rural, but lovely location. The area also attracts many walkers as the Corvedale Three Castles Walk runs through the parish.

“We are extremely fortunate to have been granted this fantastic resource for Diddlebury,” said Sara. “The AED is a vital asset for the local community and could potentially save lives. Our nearest hospitals are at least twenty-five miles away
and current ambulance wait times a minimum of one hour. Coronary heart disease remains one of the UK’s leading
causes of death. It is worth noting that for every minute that someone is in cardiac arrest without receiving CPR and AED treatment, their chance of survival decreases by 10%.”

Tyrley Ward of the Loggerheads Parish Council Gets an AED at the heart of the community

Tracey is a parish councillor for the Tyrley Ward of the Loggerheads Parish Council and is responsible for applying to the trust for one of our AED’s in the village of Hales, a small rural village near Market Drayton in North Shropshire. Prior to becoming a parish councillor, Tracey was a mental health nurse for over 30 years and was the perfect person to lead this initiative. Will, when not working as a specialist dealer and restorer of 70s and early 80s “superbikes” at Classic Bikes Ltd., is a committee member of the Hales and District Club. The club now has an HAJMT AED, available to everyone in this tight-knit community.

The club is in the centre of the village, not far from St. Mary’s church and the Hales Cricket Club, whose ground is set in quite possibly the most picturesque location in England (according to their Facebook page!). In addition, Hales is very popular with day-trippers who enjoy a day out cycling, walking or riding horses  where, on a clear day, there are stunning views across the Coalbrook Valley and of the Wrekin and Welsh Hills.
