Sara applied for an HAJMT AED working together with the Diddlebury Parish Council and the Diddlebury Village Hall committee. The defibrillator is now in place on the outside of Diddlebury Village Hall.

After a successful application for one of our AEDs at Bouldon, it recommended Diddlebury apply as they are also located far from the emergency services and are in a very rural, but lovely location. The area also attracts many walkers as the Corvedale Three Castles Walk runs through the parish.

“We are extremely fortunate to have been granted this fantastic resource for Diddlebury,” said Sara. “The AED is a vital asset for the local community and could potentially save lives. Our nearest hospitals are at least twenty-five miles away
and current ambulance wait times a minimum of one hour. Coronary heart disease remains one of the UK’s leading
causes of death. It is worth noting that for every minute that someone is in cardiac arrest without receiving CPR and AED treatment, their chance of survival decreases by 10%.”

Tracey is a parish councillor for the Tyrley Ward of the Loggerheads Parish Council and is responsible for applying to the trust for one of our AED’s in the village of Hales, a small rural village near Market Drayton in North Shropshire. Prior to becoming a parish councillor, Tracey was a mental health nurse for over 30 years and was the perfect person to lead this initiative. Will, when not working as a specialist dealer and restorer of 70s and early 80s “superbikes” at Classic Bikes Ltd., is a committee member of the Hales and District Club. The club now has an HAJMT AED, available to everyone in this tight-knit community.

The club is in the centre of the village, not far from St. Mary’s church and the Hales Cricket Club, whose ground is set in quite possibly the most picturesque location in England (according to their Facebook page!). In addition, Hales is very popular with day-trippers who enjoy a day out cycling, walking or riding horses  where, on a clear day, there are stunning views across the Coalbrook Valley and of the Wrekin and Welsh Hills.

Meet Ruth Houghton, Shropshire councillor for Bishops Castle and Sally Jones, Lydbury North Parish Councillor pictured here with Sally Angell-James at Meadowend Farm in Acton.

Acton is nestled in the hills near Lydbury North.  It is a remote area with around 42 dwellings and we were delighted to award Acton with an AED because of how difficult it is for the emergency services to get there quickly. The Parish Council were very grateful for the AED which supplements the one that has been available in Lydbury North for some time and extends coverage over more of the Parish.

Ruth and Sally (who submitted the application with the support of the Parish Council) have embraced our charity and our mission— they hand delivered flyers to their whole community informing them about the work we do and the AED they received.   They are fantastic examples of putting something back into a community and bringing people together.
